Foot Launched Powered Hang Glider Rules


The aircraft shall not be flown:

(i) For public transport or aerial work other than aerial work which consists of the giving of instruction in flying Foot Launched Powered Flying Machines;
(ii) by night;
(iii) other than in sight of the surface and subject to the flight visibility and cloud clearance requirements given in Table 1; (not shown on this page)
(iv) over any congested area of a city, town or settlement;
(v) closer than 500 ft to any person, vessel, vehicle or structure except while it is landing in accordance with normal aviation practice or while hill soaring with the engine stopped;
(vi) during take off within 500 ft of a structure (which the pilot could reasonably expect to be inhabited) unless the structure is either the property of the pilot or prior permission has been obtained from the occupants;
(vii) when towing any article (including any glider);
(viii) within any Aerodrome Traffic Zone unless with the permission of the appropriate Air Traffic Control Unit;
(ix) within Controlled Airspace; or
(x) within any Prohibited, Danger or Restricted Area.


`Definition of Congested area' in relation to a city, town or settlement, means any area which is substantially used for residential, industrial, commercial or recreational purposes.
